		<description>christian bale&#039;s breathtaking debut. still an underrated actor in my opinion. was a great movie despite the inaccuracies(example: he should have never been able to see the nuke go off). the title is a little confusing considering it didnt really talk about the japanese empire much at all. bale seems to be really good at starving himself to prepare for his scenes. makes me want fried rice every time.</description>

		<description>Totally right-on assessment of a great movie, and one of the few that come to mind that isn&#039;t focused on the European side of WWII (Bridge over the River Kwai is another, Oscar-winning one). Just one correction: The movie takes place in Shanghai, which the Japanese occupied during their invasion of China. The family lived in the International District, where foreigners thought they&#039;d be safe during the war (not!).
